FWCD Archives Highlight Traditions in Display

Traditions hold a special place in the hearts of the FWCD community. Whether it’s a longstanding ceremony, a spirited celebration, or a beloved campus event, there’s a tradition that resonates with everyone. When thinking about the next archives display outside Head of School Eric Lombardi’s office, Debby Jennings and Barb Kent, who oversee the FWCD Archives, brainstormed a long list of annual events. Jennings shared that the theme of traditions seemed to tie many separate events together, so that’s what they decided to focus on. It was also a way to represent all three divisions in one display.
The current display features Founders’ Day, Rice Babies, Grandparents’ and Grandfriends’ Day, Earth Day and the Back-to-School Picnic. To get to the point of adding artifact pieces to a display, Jennings and Kent spend several weeks in the archives, going through boxes and folders to find photos, mailings, invitations and more to include in each display.
“It takes a few weeks to pull all the photos and articles for a display. My volunteer partner, Barb Kent, is really good at display, so she does that part,” said Jennings. “We both do our part so it looks good.”
With the many traditions at FWCD, the current display is one of many displays that would be featured as they are changed out about three times a year. This is the second display of traditions this year.
The Archives displays are something Jennings and Kent have been doing for at least five years, as they continue to oversee and organize all the items kept in the Archives, making it easy for someone to find a part of FWCD history in one place. The Archives have come a long way with Jennings’ and Kent’s oversight during the last 10 years, and it continues to grow. Take a walk down memory lane and remember the traditions by looking at the Head of School Display when you’re on campus.
