Celebrating Flavors from All Around the World
Fourth graders traveled the world on Friday, April 24, as they experienced and tasted different foods from over 10 countries for Flavors of the World, hosted by the Lower School Modern Language teachers, Gabby Booth, Natasha Hatcher and Nevine Watkins, all while staying in the Lou and Nick Martin Campus Center. After tasting the different dishes, the students filled out a form to provide their thoughts about the food they sampled.
“Flavors of the World is a joyful celebration of the rich cultures, traditions and cuisines that make our school community so unique,” said Booth. “Through food, we have the opportunity to connect, learn from one another and honor the diversity that enriches our everyday lives.”
Fourth grade families were invited to participate by sharing a meaningful dish that represented their country of origin, their heritage, or a place that holds a special connection for their family. This year’s dishes included Irish Soda Bread (Ireland); Falafel with Hummus and Date Cake (Lebanon); Mango With Sweet Sticky Rice (Thailand); Pizelles (Italy); Sausage Balls (USA); Italian Sesame Cookies (Italy); Arroz Con Leche (Mexico); Chocolate Chip Cannoli (Italy); Stollen Bites (Germany); Sweet Potato Pie & Pound Cake (USA); Shortbread (Scotland); Ribs (USA); Beignets (USA); Apple Strudel (Germany); Poffertjes & Gouda Cheese (Netherlands); Addas Polo (Iran); German Chocolate Fudge (Germany); Kapusta & Bavarian Sausage (Germany); Cassava Bread (Colombia); Papitas de Leche (Venezuela); Eclairs (France); Rice Bread (Liberia); Sorrel (Jamaica); Haribo Baiser Eier (Meringue Eggs).
