FWCD’s Middle and Upper School Latin Clubs traveled to San Antonio on April 17-18 to compete in the 2026 Texas State Junior Classical League Convention, joining over 1,000 students from across the state for a weekend celebrating their love of Latin and ancient Mediterranean civilization. Students participated in athletic, artistic and academic competitions, representing all levels of Latin study – from those just beginning their study of the language to those studying at the AP level. The Middle School team placed eighth in its division, and the Upper School team was 2nd in the Small High School Division.

Upper School and Middle School Latin Teachers and Latin Club Sponsors Bryan Carlson and Clint Hagen, accompanied the students, with Middle School Science Teacher Victoria Bergman serving as an extra chaperone who cheered on the Falcons.

FWCD students also played key leadership roles at the state level. Andrew Lobo ’26 served as TSJCL Treasurer, overseeing the finances of one of the largest state JCLs in the country. Blake Wood ’27 was the Area C Chair, helping to organize the regional convention hosted at FWCD this year. “The conference was an incredible success, thanks largely to the labor and leadership of our Falcons and other students like them from around the state,” Carlson and Hagen said.
