Ava Vanderpoel ’26 became a member of the Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theater Awards (HSMTA) Performance Ensemble, which showcases the best of the best in high school musical theatre across DFW.

The 48 students chosen for the ensemble, the most competitive program in North Texas, were selected from hundreds of talented students and earned their spot through competitive auditions. They will represent Broadway Dallas at events all year long, bringing Broadway-level talent to the stages across the metroplex.

While Vanderpoel already had a background in working with Broadway Dallas in the spring with the HSTMA Award Show, she knew the talent pool was going to be like no other. For the audition, Vanderpoel had to submit two videos, one song and one monologue, and she decided to submit her college prescreen videos as she had spent hours making sure they were the best version of herself to showcase.

“The week of waiting was torture,” Vandpoel said. “I was hearing from people who also auditioned and feeling less and less confident by the day. I found out right before cheer practice one day. When I opened the email, a sense of excitement and pride like no other rushed through me. I proved to myself I earned my place at the top and worked hard enough to be a part of the best DFW has to offer. Rehearsals are going well and I could not be more proud to be a part of this ensemble!”

“Ava Vanderpoel has the drive to become a professional performer, and her career is starting while she is in Upper School," said Siouxsie Easter, Director of Theatre. “Ava auditioned with high school students across the DFW area to be a part of the Ensemble, and earned her way into a stellar program. We are very proud of her!”
