Earlier this month, admission leaders from Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin held a joint information session for DFW-area College Counselors at the Texas Star Conference Center in Euless.

During the dual presentation, admission statistics for the 2024-25 recruitment cycle were shared by both flagship institutions. Texas A&M received 75,746 applications (13% increase over last year), offered admission to 32,604, and enrolled a first-year class of 12,817. As for UT Austin, the university received 90,690 applications (20% increase over last year), offered admission to 20,154, and enrolled a first-year class of 9,542, of which 8,990 are Texas residents.

UT Austin’s Assistant Vice Provost of Admissions, Dr. Ramon Blakley, introduced Dr. Vitia Bosch-Martinez as UT Austin’s new Director of Recruitment. Based in Dallas, Dr. Bosch-Martinez was formerly the Director of UT Austin’s Dallas Admissions Center. She is a longtime friend of FWCD, presenting on campus numerous times, including College Knowledge Night in 2024, coordinating the College Counseling team’s last two UT Austin campus visits, and serving as FWCD’s Texas A&M Admission Representative from 2007 to 2011.

The 2025–26 application process remains largely the same for both UT Austin and Texas A&M. One notable change is that Texas A&M has eliminated its Early Action deadline of October 15 for engineering applicants. In addition, students applying to Texas A&M are strongly encouraged to complete the university’s scholarship application. This application requires four short-answer responses and a longer essay on leadership. The Admissions Office will consider these responses as part of the overall review process.

Brandie Eneks, Texas A&M’s Director of Freshman Admissions, advised Texas Together attendees that "students should have a complete Texas A&M admission file by October 15. October 15 is a good point of reference for all students applying to Texas A&M.”

Additionally, the following new Texas A&M undergraduate majors were highlighted.

  • Bioinformatics
  • Agricultural Education
  • Environmental System Science
  • Computer Science B.A.
  • Learning Technology and Performance Systems

UT Austin did not share any updates regarding new majors.
