College Counseling Announcement

Emily Shideler, FWCD’s new Assistant Director of College Counseling, joins Kristin Larsen and Sarah Casarez in the College Counseling Office.

This fall, Shideler will shadow Larsen and Casarez and assist seniors with their college applications. She will co-teach Junior College Counseling classes, meet with visiting college admission representatives, and provide general support to the team. Early in the spring semester, Shideler will be assigned her first caseload of students: members of the Class of 2027. “I’m excited for a future of supporting Country Day students and getting them connected with universities that will help them grow and develop into young adults who are ready to tackle the workforce and beyond,” Shideler said.

Prior to coming to FWCD, Shideler was the Student Engagement Specialist for The University of Texas at Arlington’s Honors College, where she advised Honors students and served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, teaching a student success course to first-year UTA students.

Shideler holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University, where she was a member of the John V. Roach Honors College, and a master’s degree in educational administration with an emphasis in student affairs administration in higher education from Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M, Shideler served as a Graduate Assistant in the university’s Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid and helped increase understanding of financial aid by writing, editing, and producing instructional videos and an informative podcast series about federal, state and university financial aid policies. She also completed a graduate student internship at the Center for Student Involvement at Santa Clara University in California.

A graduate of The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, Shideler understands firsthand the value of an independent school education. She is excited to join the FWCD community, not only as a colleague, but also as the proud aunt of three Lower School Falcons: Everly ‘37, Mason ’37 and Wren ’38 Robles.
