Flavors of the World is a delicious way for fourth graders to learn about different countries and cultures. View the slideshow. The program, sponsored by Lower School Spanish Teachers Gaby Booth and Natasha Hatcher and Lower School French Teacher Nevine Watkins, brings out the very best in FWCD families as students showcase a dish from their family’s country of origin or another country to which they are connected.

This year, 76 students tasted delectable dishes from around the world. After the tastings, they filled out a form to provide their thoughts about the food they had sampled.

This year’s dishes included Chicken Stir Fry (China); Lasagna, Pizelle (Italy); Scones and Clotted cheese (England); Irish Soda Bread (Ireland); Mini Bundt Cakes, Wienerschnitzel, Bratwurst (Germany); Fried Nopales, Picadillo/Carne con papas, Shrimp Ceviche, Churros (Mexico); Kolaches (Czech Republic); Grape Leaves (Lebanon); Pancakes (USA); Hunter and Forager Mix (Cherokee); Pocky Sticks (Japan); Swedish Pancakes (Sweden); Empanadas de Carne (Argentina); Potato Bread (Poland); Pain Au Chocolat, Croissants (France); Nun’s Puff (Canada); Ai Yu Jelly Dessert (Taiwan); Samosas (India); and Falafel (Israel).
