Falcon Athletes and Teams Recognized for Exemplary Sportsmanship

Each season, the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) honors athletes and teams who exemplify the highest ideals of sportsmanship – integrity, respect and gracious competition. FWCD student-athletes continue to be recognized for their character and commitment. Reese Packer ’25 (track and field) and Alex Seiden ’25 (tennis) were selected as the School’s individual SPC Sportsmanship Award recipients, and the girls tennis team earned the Team Sportsmanship Award for the SPC North Zone.
The SPC bestows two types of sportsmanship awards each season. The individual awards are determined by each member school, with one male and one female student-athlete recognized. The team sportsmanship award is voted on by coaches in each zone.
“Alex and Reese always represent FWCD with class. They show great respect for their teammates, coaches and opponents. They both lead by example,” said Director of Athletics Leigh Block. “It’s especially gratifying when opponents recognize our teams for terrific sportsmanship. This varsity girls tennis team was a joy to watch. They competed hard and improved throughout the season and always played the right way. I’m very proud of this group of student-athletes.”
Alex Seiden ’25 – Boys Tennis
As a senior captain, Seiden left a lasting impact on the FWCD tennis program. Whether playing No. 1 or No. 2 doubles or rallying his teammates during matches, Seiden led with humility, confidence and care.
“Alex showed great heart and commitment to this team throughout the season,” said Boys Tennis Coach Felipe Parra. “He was the first to arrive at practice or a match, always asking how he could help, and he brought a thoughtful perspective about how we could improve as a team. Alex is an example and a role model of how players should behave inside and outside the court while representing a team. We will all miss him and wish him the best of luck in what comes next.”
Reese Packer ’25 – Girls Track and Field
From the moment she joined the team, Packer stood out not only for her athletic accomplishments – multiple SPC Championships and School records – but for how she inspired those around her.
“Reese has made an immeasurable impact on the success of the FWCD girls track & field team, not only by winning multiple individual events and setting school records throughout her high school career, but also through her exceptional leadership,” said Program Director and Head Coach Jared Connaughton. “What makes Reese’s contributions even more impressive is that, even as an underclassman, she recognized that her voice and leadership were just as vital to the team’s success as her athletic achievements. Her dedication, drive and team-first mindset have left a lasting legacy.”
Varsity Girls Tennis – Team Sportsmanship
For the second time in three years, the girls tennis team earned the SPC North Zone Team Sportsmanship Award, a testament to their consistent commitment to integrity and kindness on the court.
“I am incredibly proud of these girls,” said Head Coach Debby Arnold. “Sportsmanship is something we practice daily. It is something we can control. Our behaviors and attitudes toward others matter. These girls proved that they can be fierce competitors and good sports at the same time. Thank you to the North Zone coaches for this honor. Go Falcons!”
This accolade marks the fourth overall team sportsmanship award for FWCD tennis, with girls earning it in 2022-23 and 2024-25 and the boys in 2021-22 and 2023-24.
Together, Alex, Reese, and the Varsity Girls Tennis team embody what it means to be a Falcon – resilient, respectful and ready to lead.
