Points of Pride: Arts

I am so proud of the work I see going on in our ballet studio. I am so proud of the creations I see coming out of our photography class. I am so impressed by the creation of an event for Lower Schoolers to meet our Upper School thespians in various roles for our inaugural Supporting CAST Character Tea. Our submission to the Fort Worth Stock & Rodeo Show visual arts contest was submitted last week. As the reigning winners of that contest’s Grand Prize, we can be so proud. Singers and dancers and painters and sculptors and ceramicists are emerging from our junior kindergarten all the way through to our seniors.
Among all of those sources of pride, I would highlight two fine arts activities in particular as October begins. I love that our Orchestra and Band Directors invited students to a Friday night performance of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and we had 60 takers! Being in the audience is all that most of us will ever do for the highest-level performances. Knowing we are inspiring students to take a Friday night to go to the symphony makes me feel good about the arts at FWCD.
The other major event since my last Notes has been the auditions, callbacks, casting and now beginnings of rehearsal for the first FWCD Middle School Musical since the 1980s. Our team has taken on the challenge of creating a Middle School Musical and finding a way to make it work in our busy calendar, to the tune of getting 47 kids to audition and now prepare the musical Elf Jr. The Musical and another 10 kids to sign up to be technical support. Creating this Middle School performance opportunity is a really significant milestone for the School and an important advancement of Pillar One of our 2030 Strategic Plan, calling us to constantly revisit the balance of the 3A’s.
