Senior Blake Brown is Fort Worth Country Day’s nominee for the Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship, a prestigious award that recognizes local students for their character, community service, leadership, and participation in varsity sports.

A member of the cross country and track & field teams, Brown’s passion for athletics has been a significant part of his high school experience. He stands out in the classroom and beyond for the many summer science programs he has participated in, including the Summer Science Program at Indiana University, where he researched the evolution of antibiotic resistance. Additionally, Brown has engaged in programs such as the Gene Lab for High Schools and a NASA program showcasing his dedication to science-related pursuits.

“Blake is a talented athlete and student, but above all, he’s a terrific teammate. He celebrates his teammates’ success and supports them when they need a boost,” said Director of Athletics Leigh Block. “Because Blake is the consummate team member, he stands out as a leader both in varsity cross country and varsity track.

His team-centric attitude makes him a successful leader. He is the Student Body Vice President this year, has served as a Student Council Representative during his Upper School tenure, and was a member of the Solar Car Team. “A scholar, athlete and student body leader, Blake’s diverse skill set makes him a strong candidate for the Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship,” said Kristin Larsen, Director of College Counseling. “His defining trait is his intellectual curiosity, which he has furthered through his participation in outstanding summer science research opportunities.”

The Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship award is open to all high school seniors attending an accredited public or private high school in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant and Wise Counties. Each school may nominate only one student through a process determined by the school. Recipients are chosen based on character, community service, leadership and varsity sport participation. Five finalists will be selected to move forward to the interview stage. The recipient receives a $30,000 scholarship, and each finalist receives a $2,500 scholarship. Last year’s Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship award winner was Rob Batton ’23.
