Associate Director of College Counseling Sarah Casarez is a Simmons University Advisory Board member. She is one of only 10 advisors from across the country, representing high schools, community colleges and community-based organizations. She will attend an on-campus meeting at Simmons on March 11, 2024. The Simmons University Advisory Board plays a crucial role in shaping the undergraduate admission process and ensuring that it remains fair, transparent and inclusive. In joining the board, advisors have the opportunity to contribute their knowledge and experience to help the university make informed decisions and create a more holistic and student-centered approach to admissions. In addition, Casaraz is serving a second year on the University of Arizona Advisory Board, which has a similar mission.

“I value serving with Counselor Advisory Boards because of the lasting relationships I am able to build with the institution’s admission team as well as my fellow board members,” Casarez said. “As an Advisory Board Member, I am in a position to advocate for the changing needs of students, provide insight from my experience as a College Counselor and former Admission Officer, and identify barriers students may face when applying to college.

“Additionally, I  learn more about the college/university, and the appointment often culminates in a visit to campus. Building my knowledge of the college/university helps me to recommend the institution to FWCD students and families,” she continues. “I also have an opportunity to highlight the academic strength of FWCD and our extraordinary students in my conversations with the admission office.”
