College Counseling Event

The College Counseling Office invites the parents and guardians of the Class of 2025 to attend the Junior College Counseling Workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, in the Lou and Nick Martin Campus Center.

To take full benefit of the planned programming, participants are asked to bring a charged laptop or iPad.

We are pleased to welcome our guest speakers, Angie Alamah, Director of Texas and Southwest Admission for Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, and Sherrill Landorf, Assistant Director of Admission and DFW Area Regional Representative for Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

A 16-year college admission counseling veteran, Alamah has held various positions in undergraduate and graduate admissions as well as high school college counseling and nonprofit programs. Prior to joining Marist’s admission team in 2022, she was the Senior Associate Director of Admission at Loyola University Chicago.

Alamah is a member of several higher education organizations, including the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC), and the Dallas/Fort Worth Admission Regional Network (DARN), where she currently serves as an Association Chair.

She is passionate about helping students and families better understand the college admission process and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of Oklahoma and an MBA from the University of Dallas.

A Purdue graduate, Landorf holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Following a successful career in engineering and engineering management, she began working for her alma mater in the Office of Admission. This year marks Landorf’s 13th as the DFW Regional Admissions Representative. In this role, she works with Texas high school counselors and their students and families and reads admission applications.

Furthermore, Landorf is living proof that parents and guardians can survive the college process, and, in her case, she has done so not once but twice. She and her husband are the proud parents of two Purdue Boilermakers. Their daughters graduated from the university in 2019 and 2021.

The Junior College Counseling Workshop will help parents and guardians understand the roles of the students, parents, and guardians in a successful college search and application process. Through the expertise of these guest speakers and the tools presented by the College Counselors, parents and guardians will understand what to expect as students move through their junior year.

The workshop also will introduce parents and guardians to the Junior College Counseling Class and Naviance, FWCD’s web-based college research tool.

Saturday’s workshop sessions, along with time for questions and conversation, will provide valuable information for parents and guardians who are new to the process, as well as to those whose students have already graduated from FWCD.

Please join us and bring your electronic device!
