Notes from the Head Forward Together

Early in the month, we announced the launch of the public phase of our Forward Together Comprehensive Campaign, the largest campaign in our school’s history. With that launch, our campaign website also went live, fwcd.org.forwardtogether. This site allows you to learn how the School is carrying forward the legacy of our Founders, expanding and further fortifying FWCD’s endowment for sustainability ($8 million), Lower School new construction  ($26 million), athletic fields enhancement (completed at $3.5 million) and The FWCD Fund, the School’s annual fund ($4.5 million).

Thanks to devoted and driven campaign leadership and 170 donors, we announced on October 6 that we were at 80% of the campaign goal. Forward Together is a source of powerful energy around our school. We are excited to be taking that energy into the larger community and for even more people to get involved as we work to raise the final 20% of the initial campaign. We hope all our families will join us in this broadly impactful initiative aimed at setting FWCD up for its next 60 years.

By now, you have likely seen the Temporary Village taking shape west of our kindergarten playground and north of the Fischer Dining Pavillion. Our Lower School teachers are in moving mode. They continue to sort and purge items (Mrs. Fuller has been in her windowless room for 32 years!) to prepare professionals to move furniture and packed boxes over the Thanksgiving break. Our grades 1-4 students will enjoy an extra week of time off (November 27-December 1), allowing our teachers to enjoy their week of break and then come back to campus for the final move-in and preparation of classrooms. (We assume all families needing child care during that week have already signed up here: SOAR Child Care). Stay tuned for more from us in the coming weeks about December’s new Lower School carpool procedures, expected building demolition days and more.

We haven’t had a new building built on campus since the construction of the Patton Field House began in the 2015-16 academic year. It is an exciting time to be a Falcon. It’s going to be fun to watch the progress of this building project over the next year.
