Jiu-Jitsu Champion in the Middle School

Joseph Brunson ’25 won gold for jiu-jitsu in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Pan Kids Championship on February 8. This competition is recognized as the highest level of competition in the U.S. for kids (until the age of 15) and takes place every February in Long Beach, California. Joseph, who has been doing jiu-jitsu full time for almost two years, made the decision last summer to prepare for this specific competition. He participated in multiple state and regional tournaments as a part of his training. His next competitions are the Jiu-Jitsu World League Competition on February 22 and the NAGA Tournament on March 7. Both competitions are in Dallas. Joseph’s goal is to compete in at least 10 tournaments each year at the state and regional levels with his team, Mohler Jiu-Jitsu.
