Middle School
Orchestral study is offered to string students on violin, viola, cello and string bass beginning in Middle School. Using a blend of traditional and Suzuki teaching methods, the classes focus on basic foundations of string playing, i.e., good posture, left-hand position and bow hold. As students mature, emphasis shifts to increased skill development, ensemble performance and progressive studies in music theory.
Upper School
Upper School Orchestra continues refining individual and ensemble playing skills. Orchestra members are invited to participate in individual competitions and auditions during the year. Students are eligible to participate in both public and private school All-State auditions. Repertoire for Upper School Orchestra ranges from Classical and Baroque to electric ensemble and contemporary music. Students are introduced to more challenging technical exercises, a higher focus on sight-reading, and the performance and interpretation of various musical styles.
