Welcome to College Counseling

At FWCD, the College Counseling Office is dedicated to making the students’ transition from high school to college one that encourages both self-reflection and growth. The goals of the College Counseling program at FWCD are for students to understand themselves, feel empowered and knowledgeable during the research and application processes, and to ultimately be happy at their chosen college. There are many factors that influence a student’s final college enrollment decision and the college counselors are ready to help students and families navigate their options. The FWCD college counseling program aims to provide support for all students, helping each one find his or her appropriate college match.

The college counselors work closely with juniors and seniors starting at the beginning of the junior year with a twice-monthly college counseling class, preparing students to be knowledgeable and ready to navigate the college application process no matter where they choose to apply. The college counselors also meet occasionally with freshmen and sophomores throughout the school year and host approximately 30 college counseling events, including senior application workshops, parent brown bag lunch meetings and College Colloquium. College Colloquium, FWCD’s signature college counseling event, brings a panel of college admission deans to campus each spring to share their valued insight and expertise with the Upper School faculty, parents and students. FWCD also hosts a college fair, College Day, attracting over 200 college and university admission representatives to our campus during this annual fall event.

Traditionally, 100 percent of FWCD graduates attend four-year colleges and universities across the U.S. and internationally. Students who stay in Texas enjoy acceptance rates far exceeding the levels set by in-state institutions. FWCD students’ college acceptances demonstrate an outstanding level of preparation, plus an ability to contribute positively to their campus and, ultimately, to their world.

We look forward to working with your family. Please contact our office if you have any questions about the college counseling program at FWCD.
