FWCD Earns DSM HSMTA Nominations


Fort Worth Country Day was nominated for three
Dallas Summer Musical High School Musical Theatre Awards (DSM HSMTA): Best Leading Actress: Claire Guthrie ’20, Best Direction: Travis Guba and Best Costume Design: Natalie Bracken ’05, Tricia Franks, Travis Guba, Cathy Gullo and Kathy Roemer.
 
DSM HSMTA are regional awards and nominees were chosen from among 68 participating schools. “This is a very big competition, and we are competing with schools 10 times our size,” said Upper School Theatre Director Travis Guba. There are 10 nominations for Best Actor and Actress and eight nominations for all other categories, which include Best Musical, Best Choreography, Best Music Direction, Best Orchestration, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Stage Crew & Technical Execution, Best Ensemble, Best Leading Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Featured Performer
 
This year’s award show on May 14, will be an all-digital format. FWCD Scott Theater Manager Eric Tysinger is one of only three individuals working on the creation of this show. All awards will be announced via a produced video featuring engaging performances, virtual acceptance speeches and cameos featuring top Broadway talent.
 
Typically, the  winners from the DSM HSMTA regional awards move on to the national competition, the Jimmy Awards, in New York City However, due to social distancing-protocols related to COVID-19 the Jimmy Awards, which are the high school musical equivalent of the Tony Awards, were canceled.
 
Graciously founded by Leah & Jerry Fullenwider, the Dallas Summer Musical High School Musical Theatre Awards aim to inspire and honor excellence in high school musical theater, and to recognize the importance of musical theater and arts education within the North Texas community.
