News SOAR Enrichment

JaNysha “JK” Childers is FWCD’s new Auxiliary Enrichment Programs Manager. Childers is a familiar FWCD face: She was a Camp Administrator with Fort Wonder Camps from May to October 2023 and Lead Camp Counselor from June to August 2021.

“JK is a legend at FWCD with Fort Wonder summer camps; her positive energy and enthusiasm for working with young students is simply contagious,” said Kelly Lanier Tierce ’93, Director of Auxiliary Enrichment Programs. “She is the creator of our Fort Wonder camp songs, the most popular titled, ‘Hey, Burrito!’ To know JK is to love her.”

During the school year, Childers will oversee SOAR daily, as well as develop summer curriculum for Fort Wonder Camps. During the summer, she will serve as a Senior Camp Administrator, instituting curriculum for each camp session and serving as Master of Ceremonies at daily camp gatherings.

Childers comes to FWCD from Uplift Education, where she was a Teacher Aide and Substitute Teacher teaching fourth grade English, language arts, reading and social studies, and coaching middle school boys basketball since December 2022. She has also been a coach for the Fort Worth Young Warriors AAU Organization, a year-round basketball program, since 2020. She is the Head Coach of the high school girls team.

A University of North Texas graduate, Childers earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies (EC-6). She has nine years of experience in enrichment, summer camp and school break programs, working as a Program Coordinator and later as a Childcare Program Director at the Amon G. Carter Jr. Downtown YMCA.

“Fort Worth Country Day stole my heart from the minute I came for my interview for Camp Counselor in 2021. Everything about the environment and staff just won me over. At that time, Fort Wonder was just the camp I needed in my life to continue my love and passion for summer camp and working with kids. I made sure to come back every chance I got and took what Michael always told me to heart, ‘There will always be a spot for you here at Fort Wonder’,” Childers said. “Being back at FWCD full-time as the Auxiliary Enrichment Programs Manager has me floating on clouds! I am super ecstatic to continue to grow and extend my knowledge and creativity in this camp world to make sure that the campers and staff make memories they will never forget.”
