FWCD Golfer Heads to Pebble Beach

Senior Brendan O'Connell was selected to participate in the Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach on September 19-24. This 54-hole golf event is a PGA Champions Tour Pro-Am Tournament that pairs 81 PGA Tour Champions professionals with 81 junior golfers, ages 15-18, from The First Tee Chapters across the country. O’Connell is paired with Billy Andrade, and the duo are playing Pebble Beach today at 2:18 p.m. CST during the TV coverage window on the Golf Channel. They tee off Saturday at Poppy Hills and, if they make the cut, will play Pebble Beach again on Sunday. 
The First Tee is more than a sports program for youth. Through in-school and after-school programs, The First Tee helps shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by introducing them to character education and life skills through the game of golf. In a recent research study, 84 percent of teen participants credit The First Tee for helping them be a better student in school and 96 percent of teens participants credit The First Tee for improving their golf skills.
