Art Accolades

Teddy Margo ’17, Abby Hoffacker ’18 and Payton Childress ’19 had artworks accepted into the highly competitive Texas Visual Art Association 2017 annual High School Art Competition. They are students in Lauren Cunningham’s Painting and Drawing classes.  “Each of these stuidents are incredibly modest about their artistic abilities,” Cunningham said, “but their inclusion in this exhibit speaks to their quality of work, especially since the exhibition was juried by three notable art professionals.”

Students form 39 Dallas-Fort Worth schools submitted art this year. From 1,285 entries, 135 artworks were selected. This translates to 10.5 percent of the submitted artworks making it into the show. Of the 135 exhibited works, 24 will receive awards. The awards reception takes place Sunday, March 26.

Jurors were Michael Mazurek, a Dallas-based Artist and Curator; Sally Packard, an International Artist and Director of the TCU School of Fine Arts Program; and Giovanni Vanderas, a Dallas-based Artist who has served as the Vice Chair of the Cultural Affairs Commission for the City of Dallas.
