Blind Date with a Book

Are your Middle School students looking for a book to read this month? Look no further than the Moncrief Library’s “Blind Date with a Book” display in front of the circulation desk. To honor the month of February and its heart-filled “holiday” Middle School Librarian Kim Gardner designed the fun display to entice readers to take a chance on a book they know nothing about.
All books are wrapped like presents and have a brief one-liner description. Readers then take their choice to the circulation desk where it is scanned for checkout. Only after the book is checked out does the student unwrap the “gift” and learn what book he/she is reading.
Gardner got the idea for the “Blind Date with a Book” display from Pinterest. She used some of those ideas to create the display and has added an incentive. The students who participate are being asked to fill out a rating slip after they read the book. Those slips will be entered into a drawing for some chocolate—winner to be announced on Tuesday, February 28.
