    On Tuesday, May 15, during an Upper School assembly, students were recognized for their performances on their Spring athletic teams. Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Frank Gendusa was also recognized for his 13 years at FWCD. Gendusa was surprised with a party and farewell. We will miss him dearly as he returns to his native New Orleans where he will be coaching his grandson in football.

    Assistant Head of Upper School Peggy Wakeland, affectionately known as The Peginator, was honored at the Spring Sports Awards on May 15 with the Old Sport Award. Established in 1989, this award is presented to an individual in the FWCD community who has continued to be a big booster, faithful fan and super supporter of Falcon athletics year in year out.

    Last May, Athletic Director and Varsity Head Football Coach Frank Gendusa shared that he and his wife, Shirley, would be returning to their longtime home of New Orleans when the 2017-18 academic year ended. On May 15, the Fort Worth Country Day community honored Frank at the Upper School Spring Sports Awards.

    DVR alert! Tune in to WFAA Channel 8 on Sunday, June 3, at 10:30 p.m. as Kathleen Clum ’18 is recognized as a Dale Hansen Scholar Athlete. Kat has been a member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams at FWCD. Next year, she will be playing softball at Brown University.

    Positive Changes Served Up in Volleyball Program

    2018-19 Athletic Director Brian Phelps announced that Rosalyn Thorpe will serve as Girls Varsity Volleyball Head Coach. Patrick Powers ’05 will take on the Boys Varsity Volleyball Head Coach position, and Missi Olson Kovachev ’89 will serve as Volleyball Program Director. All FWCD parents and volleyball players are invited to a Meet and Greet during volleyball open gym on Wednesday, May 30, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Sid W. Richardson Round Gym.

    Congratulations to the Middle School Boys’ Lacrosse Team, coached by Clint Hagen and Chris Giblin. The team advanced further in the DFW Lacrosse Tournament than any FWCD team has ever advanced, making it to the championship game in its division this past weekend.

    Brian Farda Named FWCD Varsity Head Football Coach

    , FWCD’s new Athletic Director (starting in 2018-19), announced on March 2that Brian Farda will be Fort Worth Country Day’s next Varsity Head Football Coach. Farda’s appointment follows an extensive search. He succeeds FWCD Athletic Director Frank Gendusa, who has served as Head Football Coach since 2005.
    The search committee (listed below) reviewed more than 100 resumes and conducted 40 initial interviews. Nine semifinalists were brought to campus for more in-depth interviews with the search committee and with several players. Four finalists were brought back to campus to meet with the full team and to get to know FWCD better.

    Senior Signs with Brown University

    Kathleen Clum ’18 signed her National Letter of Intent to play softball at Brown University on February 7. Clum embodies the true spirit of FWCD by embracing the 3’As. Her acceptance to Brown speaks to her academic success. An FWCD athlete, she has been a member of the varsity volleyball, basketball and softball teams. She also can be found on the theater stage, at vocal competitions or singing for various gatherings. Clum's hard work, dedication and positive spirit have been an inspiration.

    With seven returning starters – Brayden Bescher ’18 (OF/P), Turner Symonds ’18 (SS), Sam Elkind ’19 (C), Clark Sheats ’18 (1B), Ozzie Fleischer ’20 (3B), Jackson Norman ’19 (OF), Drew Chilcoat ’19 (OF/P) – and a roster that includes seven seniors – Symonds, Bescher, Lance Mayhue, Sheats, Wyatt Allsup,  Robert McBroom and Ethan Davenport – Fort Worth Country Day’s baseball team is ranked 11 in the Private School Preseason Top 20.

    Fort Worth Country Day senior Case Quattro received the Burlsworth Character Award. Coach Frank Gendusa shared that Quattro was a team player willing to play where the team needed him most. He was at practice every day working hard and always striving to get better and stronger. Coaches said his positive attitude and consistent work ethic will be greatly missed.
