College Bound Program

As the Breakthrough students grow and move into high school, it is important that we provide programs that support their college bound needs.

C.R.E.W. (College Readiness in Every Way)

In their early transition to high school, Breakthrough students in grades 9-10 receive monthly college bound counseling during the C.R.E.W. program. Some of the introductory programming includes, but is not limited to:
  • How to calculate GPA
  • Community service opportunities
  • Course selection
  • How to build a resume

Keys 2 College (K2C) and Senior Advisory

Designed for the hands-on needs of students in grades 11 and 12, older high school youth, participate once a month in workshops about the college application process. Some of the courses that K2C and senior advisory students complete are:
  • The college search and knowledge process
  • ACT/SAT prep and finding ACT/SAT prep courses
  • Building a resume
  • College essay writing (Junior Leadership Summit)
  • FAFSA night
  • Common Application and ApplyTexas application overview
Seniors and parents are provided with continuous one-on-one counseling as they begin and complete the college application process.

Community service is another prominent topic, and Breakthrough high-school students are encouraged to give back to the program by working as summer teacher’s assistants, summer teaching fellows, school-year teachers and more.
