A Day in the Life

At Breakthrough, every day is a great day! Take a look a student’s typical schedule during the Breakthrough Summer Program:

7:45 a.m.—Arrive at Breakthrough
  • Students arrive at Fort Worth Country Day and are welcomed with cheers and high fives from their teachers the minute they step off the bus or out of their cars.
8 a.m.—Breakfast
  • Students eat breakfast with their teachers and get ready to start the day.
8:25 a.m.—Word Challenge
  • During Word Challenge, students and teachers work together to learn new words and challenge each other to remember all the words by the end of the summer.
8:40 a.m.—First Period: Literature
  • Students transition to first period in the FWCD Upper School and during transition are welcomed with a playlist of some of their favorite songs. In class, they are digging deep into finding textual evidence in their summer book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
9:40 a.m.—Second Period: Writing
  • Students move to writing and get to write persuasive essays about various topics that matter to them.
10:40 a.m.—Team Time and Snacks
  • Students take a brain break with their teammates and enjoy a snack before heading to their next class.
10:55 a.m.—Third Period: Mathematics
  • Students review understanding of linear equations by playing Jeopardy and interacting with one another.
11:55 a.m.--Fourth Period: Science
  • Did you know that the ability to roll your tongue is a hereditary trait from either your mom or your dad? Students learn these things and more in their science class (and cool experiments, too!).
12:55 p.m.—Lunch
  • Even when they are eating lunch, students are constantly cheering and having fun!
1:25 p.m.—All-School Meeting
  • ALL-SCHOOL MEETING! A daily meeting with the entire Breakthrough community for announcements, cheers, talents and more!
1:55 p.m.—Study Buddies
  • Tough homework assignment in math tonight? Never fear. Your study buddy will be there to help you. It’s also a great opportunity to get part of your homework done before the day is even over!
2:30 p.m.—Clubs
  • Soccer? Tennis? Ultimate Frisbee? Broadcast Journalism? Film Club? Art? French? What do all these things have in common? They are just some of the clubs students participate in every day after academic classes are over.
3:20 p.m.—Flex Time
  • Now is a time to work with your team on various team projects, announcements and more. It’s a great time for students to bond with their teammates and team teachers.
4 p.m.—Dismissal
  • Get on the bus and they’re off!
Evening: Homework Time!
  • Two Hours of Homework? Not a big deal! The students have this; and when the night ends and all of their homework is done, they’re off to bed to rest up for another day of Breakthrough fun and learning!
