Fancy Meal

Recognizing that Breakthrough students’ underrepresented backgrounds are less likely to ready them for real-world experiences at the college level and beyond, the Breakthrough program has a comprehensive focus that incorporates both academic and leadership education for its students. The program’s annual Fancy Meal luncheon is an experiential classroom where Breakthrough students learn to interact with prominent community members and exercise good etiquette and social skills. The community leaders they meet – like you – are their role models for the day, introducing them to their first professional-level social setting and conversations.

For two years, the students look forward to the event, and their participation is earned as a result of good conduct and grades, both in the program and at school. Your support not only provides the luncheon for them, it also ensures the supplies and student teachers they need to fulfill their six weeks of classes in the summer session.
