Dates: June 12-17, 2018

Size: 18 participants

Cost: $2000 per person

Included: Five nights of deluxe or best-available hotel accommodations; five breakfasts and two dinners; welcome and farewell receptions; all ground transportation costs; gratuities to guides and drivers for all group activities; all tours as described in the itinerary; educational program and pre-departure materials, including recommended reading list, a selected book, map and travel information; services of FWCD faculty leaders to assist you throughout the program.

Not included: International and domestic airfare; passport fees; meals and beverages other than those specified as included; trip cancellation/interruption and baggage insurance; excess baggage charges; personal items such as Internet access, telephone calls, laundry and gratuities for non-group services.

Air arrangements: U.S./France and domestic airfare is not included in the program cost.

What to expect: Although this program is not a trek, there will be many days with considerable walking. Daily excursions consist of up to four miles of walking, including navigating stairs without handrails. Medical treatment and care is not always up to U.S. standards. We expect that participants will be a self-selecting group whose interests in the places we visit outweigh the need for excessive creature comforts. Participants should be physically fit, active and in good health.

  • Deposit and Final Payment

    A $1000-per-person deposit is required to hold your space. Sign up online or call the FWCD Alumni Association Office at 817.302.3204. Final payment is due February 10, 2018. As a condition of participation, all confirmed participants are required to sign a Release of Liability.
  • Cancellations or refunds

    Deposits and any payments are refundable, less a $500-per-person cancellation fee, until February 10, 2018. After that date, refunds can be made only if the program is sold out and your place(s) can be resold, in which a $1000-per-person cancellation fee will apply.
  • Eligibility

    The trip is open to all members of the FWCD Alumni Association and their adult family members.
  • Responsibility

    The FWCD Alumni Association and our faculty leaders act only as agents for the passenger with respect to transportation and exercise every care possible in doing so.  However, we can assume no liability for injury, damage, loss, accident, delay or irregularity in connection with the service of any automobile, motor coach or any other conveyance used in carrying out this program or for acts or defaults of any company or person engaged in conveying the passenger or in carrying out arrangements of the program. We cannot accept any responsibility for losses or additional expenses due to delay or changes in air or other services, sickness, strike, war, quarantine or other causes beyond our control. All such losses or expenses will have to be borne by the passenger as tour rates provide arrangements only for time stated. We reserve the right to make such alterations to this published itinerary as may be deemed necessary. The right is reserved to cancel any program prior to departure, in which case the entire payment will be refunded without further obligation on our part. The right is also reserved to decline to accept or retain any person as a member of the program. No refund will be made for any unused portion of any tour unless arrangements are made in sufficient time to avoid penalties. Baggage is carried at the owner’s risk entirely. Neither the FWCD Alumni Association nor faculty leaders accept any liability for any carrier’s cancellation penalty incurred by the purchase of a non-refundable ticket in connection with the tour. Program price is based on rates in effect in October 2017 and is subject to change without notice to reflect fluctuations in exchange rates, tariffs or fuel charges.
  • *Trip Leader

    Bill Arnold is currently the Director of Special Projects at Fort Worth Country Day. Since joining the faculty in 1994, he has taught nine different Upper School history classes, coached four sports, and held four administrative posts. Additionally, he served 16 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve and deployed to Iraq in 2004-05.

    This will be his eighth trip to Normandy and the D-Day beaches.
