  • Age-normed Readiness Assessment

FWCD uses a developmentally appropriate assessment for prospective students applying to kindergarten. The Admission Assessment for Beginning Learners (AABL) is an engaging, interactive, tablet-based (iPad) evaluation that provides insight into a child’s abilities with regard to reasoning and achievement. Take a moment to visit the erblearn.org website for a comprehensive overview of the assessment and to view a demonstration video.

Kindergarten admission testing is individually administered and scheduled Monday-Friday at 8:30, 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. If you are testing at Fort Worth Country Day, we will contact you to schedule an appointment on our campus with Lucy Biggs, the former FWCD Kindergarten teacher and admission representative. While your child is enjoying “good work” with Mrs. Biggs, current kindergarten parent volunteers will visit with you about volunteer opportunities, carpool, school uniforms, field trips and more.
  • Preschool Recommendation

The Preschool Teacher recommendation will be mailed to the child’s preschool and returned directly to FWCD. If a child is an applicant to more than one school, the school that is administering the individual assessment is the school of record and will forward a copy of the testing and recommendation to the other applicant schools.
  • Age Requirement

Children must be 5 years old by August 31 of the year they will enter Kindergarten.
If you are considering having your child wait a year before entering kindergarten and he or she will turn 6 before
May 1, we recommend that you schedule a visit with our Admission staff.

"We truly appreciate the education our sons are receiving at FWCD.  It has been a better experience for both of them than we ever could have hoped for.  It's hard to believe John is leaving 'the nest' soon to pursue an electrical engineering degree at Texas A&M.  He is certainly well prepared for college - thanks to the wonderful teachers and curriculum at FWCD."

Consortium Schools Joint Admission Policies

FWCD cooperates with three other independent schools – All Saints' Episcopal School, Fort Worth Academy, and Trinity Valley School – in sharing joint admission policies, calendar, testing and notification dates. To be considered for admission at any other school, candidates must also file applications with those schools. Except under special circumstances determined by the test administrators, results are not valid if a test is administered to the student more than once within a given year.
