Want to see the world while representing Fort Worth? Fort Worth Sister Cities International offers international Youth Ambassador exchanges that allow students to experience another culture firsthand, build international friendships, and develop a deeper understanding of the world. Last year, FWCD students Miles Brown ’27, Charles Cady ’27, Hannah Cady ’30, Abigail Dzurik ’28 and Sophia Mora ’28 served as Youth Ambassadors.

Since 1985, the program has connected Fort Worth students with young people in the city’s nine international sister cities. Selected students travel as Youth Ambassadors and participate in a U.S. Department of State-recognized program, meet city officials, volunteer through community service projects and share Texas culture with their international hosts. Students also attend cultural orientations before traveling and, depending on the exchange, stay with host families for an immersive experience.

Students selected for an exchange will:

  • Represent Fort Worth as a Youth Ambassador
  • Meet city officials in Fort Worth and their sister city
  • Participate in global community service projects
  • Experience another culture through local schools, communities and host families
  • Share Texas culture and promote Fort Worth abroad
  • Build friendships and connections with students from around the world

The application process includes a report card, two teacher recommendations, a one-page essay and a personal interview with a parent or legal guardian present. Several scholarship opportunities are also available, including awards that can provide up to $2,000 in assistance or, for the Harashin exchange to Nagaoka, Japan, cover the full cost except the program fee. The application deadline is Sunday, October 18.
