Fourth Grade Service Club Builds Leadership Through Service
Fourth graders have a new opportunity to turn leadership into action through the Fourth Grade Service Club. The club will give students hands-on opportunities to live out FWCD’s Core Values, strengthen their leadership skills, and make a positive impact on the School and local community.
“Fourth grade is the culminating year of the Lower School experience,” says Kelly Lanier Tierce ’93, Director of Auxiliary Services and Service Learning. “Our fourth graders are leading assemblies and Families gatherings, reading to kindergarteners, and helping with morning carpool. Service Club is a natural extension of those fourth grade leadership opportunities, with a focus on applying their understanding of the Core Values and leadership toward helping to better our community.”
During the fall semester, students will focus on service projects that benefit the FWCD community. In the spring, their efforts will expand to include local community partners. Each meeting will begin with a Core Value or leadership topic and discussion before students put their ideas into practice.
“Our fourth graders have the ability to take on larger FWCD community tasks with the application of their leadership skills, Core Values and sense of independence that blossoms in the fourth grade year,” Tierce says. “I am excited to see where the group’s interests lead us!”
All fourth grade students are invited to participate in any or all of the club’s meetings. The kickoff meeting is Friday, September 11, with additional meetings on September 18 and 25; October 2, 9, 16 and 23; November 13; and December 4 and 11. All meetings are from 7:45-8:10 a.m. in the Lower School Breakout Rooms.
