What’s the STARS? Why do some Seniors Need to Complete it?

The Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) allows college applicants to submit their academic record directly to participating colleges rather than having their high school send an official transcript with each application. Formerly known as the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) and the Self-Reported Student Academic Record (SSAR), the platform was rebranded as STARS in August 2025.

Currently, 38 colleges and universities accept or require STARS as part of their application process. Because institutional policies vary, students should review each college’s requirements carefully. Some institutions require STARS submission, while others accept it as an optional component of the application. Several Texas universities use STARS, and Texas A&M University requires it for all applicants.

STARS is most commonly used by public universities, particularly in Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, but it is also required or accepted by several highly selective institutions, including New York University and the United States Air Force Academy.

FWCD’s College Counselors will host a STARS Workshop for members of the Class of 2027 from 1-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, in the Moncrief Library. Seniors who plan to participate need to bring a fully charged laptop to complete the online process.
