  • Falcons Give Back

FWCD eighth-graders gave back to the Fort Worth community in a big way by dispersing $8,100 in grant funding to eight local nonprofit organizations. The check presentation ceremony on Friday, March 1, concluded the Falcons for Fort Worth program, a community service learning project developed to instill the values of philanthropy in today’s students. The program focuses on the values of generosity, involvement and responsibility—all character qualities that students carry with them for a lifetime.
The Once Upon a Time Foundation granted $100 per student for disbursement in the Falcons for Fort Worth program. Each advisory acts as a board of a corporation -- the program discusses corporate giving. The students then learn about local nonprofits through representatives who visit campus throughout the fall semester. This year, 16 organizations shared their stories. During the presentations, students posed questions to better understand the inner-working of the various agencies. This is the eighth year FWCD eighth-graders have participated in this interactive, real-world learning program.
