Lower School Learning Specialist
The Lower School learning specialist is a specially trained professional who is responsible for supporting the learning needs of Lower School students. The learning specialist provides high-level support for students and teachers and serves as a resource for Lower School parents. The learning specialist operates from a philosophy that students should be supported first within the classroom and by the classroom teacher. If improvement is not made, the learning specialist and classroom teacher work collaboratively to develop an action plan of strategies for implementation in the classroom. They will maintain close communication with the child’s parents to ensure home support and follow through. If appropriate progress is not made, the learning specialist may become more directly involved with the student by providing individual or small-group multisensory instruction in the area(s) of concern. Such instruction is on a short-term basis only. Students in need of more intensive or long-term support will be referred to outside resources.
